The Rwandan Community living in Washington Metropolitan area, on Saturday, thronged the River City Church to celebrate the 8th Rwanda Annual Prayer Banquet.
The Rwandan community in Washington DC, Virginia and Maryland were joined by the Rwanda Embassy officials, friends of Rwanda from America, Canada, East Africa and various church leaders from different congregations.
In his remarks, Ambassador James Kimonyo thanked all the attendants and the banquet organizers for making the event a success and called upon the congregation to strengthen their usual friendships and always think what they can do for their country.
He called upon them to stand firm, support and work for the peace and security that the country is enjoying now.
The Rwandan envoy thanked the government of Rwanda for supporting preparations for the annual event through its Embassy in Washington DC.
He urged Rwandans living in the US to turn up in big numbers during the upcoming 16th commemoration of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi to be held on April 7 in Washington DC.
All the speakers pointed out that, events like the prayer banquet were important because they provided a forum for togetherness, and reflection on Rwanda’s achievements and challenges, while using these evaluations to move forward on correct paths.
The colourful event was characterized by praise and worshipas well as Rwanda cultural dance.
The prayer banquet is an annual event organized by the Rwanda Diaspora community of the Christian faith as a platform to pray for the nation.
